The last two race meetings have produced a great show and up to expectations. French Maxime Guyon was crowned champion jockey with 4 wins and several places. Here is an update of jockeys rating following theses two meetings (based on factors such as : mastering the tricky track design of the Champ de Mars, tactics, decisive moves and being up to expections on potential winners). It can be a useful data for future references.
(On 10 points) Bernard Fayd’herbe (South Africa) : 10 Donavan Mansour (South Africa) : 9 Maxime Guyon (France) : 9 James Winks (Australia) : 8.5 Ioritz Mendizabal (Spain) : 8 Mark Zahra (Australia) : 8 Pradeep Singh Chouhan (India) : 8 Jamie Spencer (Ireland) : 7.5 Rye Joorawon (Mauritius) : 7.5 Swapneel Rama (Mauritius) : 7.5 Brad Rawiller (Australia) : 7 Sean Levey (Swaziland) : 6 Martin Harley (Ireland) : 6 The last two meetings of the season will be marked by the International Week-End, welcoming top and experienced jockeys throughout the world. It will be a good opportunity for all stables but mainly small bugdet ones to express themselves better. Like recent years' contests, it is no surprise that runners will be prepared accordingly for that particular event. So, beware of outsiders !. Here is an estimate rating of confirmed jockeys (on 10 points)
Bernard Fayd’herbe (South Africa) : 10 Donavan Mansour (South Africa) : 9 Jamie Spencer (Ireland) : 9 Maxime Guyon (France) : 8 Brad Rawiller (Australia) : 8 Ioritz Mendizabal (Spain) : 8 James Winks (Australia) : 7.8 Rye Joorawon (Mauritius) : 7.5 Swapneel Rama (Mauritius) : 7 Mark Zahra (Australia) : 7 Pradeep Singh Chouhan (India) : 7 Sean Levey (Swaziland) : 7 + Martin Harley (Ireland) : 7 ++ A day marked also by three winners who changed stable recently. Entree, Seeking The Dream and League Of Legends. It's not always an easy choice for owners due to high transfer fees which have to be incurred during the season and other restrictions. But on the other hand a change in handling and training may actually pay off.
An exceptional performance and a classic double by stayer Parachute Man landing a spectacular win in the Duke of York Cup. With a bit of luck on the initial part being able to settle close to pace, he moved on naturally at the 900 m mark and literally 'skimmed' the field by pressuring the pace. Well inspired jockeyship from R. Joorawon never in doubt rode him like a champion throughout. Charles Lytton ran also a splendid race but paid perhaps a price after his last outing 2 weeks ago by extending to catch the front runner.
A patient win for Scorecard in the main event beating hot favorite The Tipster who unfortunately raced fiercely as from the 1000 m mark. Scorecard came from a more than 3 months rest and did again very well fresh, benefiting from favorable race conditions.
Three additional wins for trainer G.Rousset who is cruising slightly for an another important milestone since 2013 championship. This is mainly due to a strong 70% win of their batch of 17 new horses who have performed remarkably throughout the season showing perfect timing on acquisitions and preparation. Whereas trainer R.Gujadhur has been performing consistently mainly in mid-low class rating bands and no Group 1 winners. The last classic & miler race of the season 'The Duke of York Cup' and 2200 m 'The Coupe des Presidents' should be also determining factors.
6th win in a row for Karraar who is still on the ascent. He proved his versatility showing natural gate speed. He controlled the race perfectly and was once again a class above his opponents. Top Jet & Hillbrow (from a bad draw) ran a decent race, unfortunate Ryder Cup needs to be reviewed.
Charles Lytton confirmed his late progress and was up to expectations in the famous elite sprint Princess Magaret Cup on 1400m. With a predictable hot pace, he followed quietly close to midfield and showed great character and acceleration to beat quite easily favourite Kremlin Captain who has been off for more than 2 months. Desert Sheik's race to be ignored.
A Mr Brock like win for Parachute Man. The Ricky Maingard trained stayer proved his worth in the most prestigious Classic race of the season The Maiden Cup. He left front runner Vettel with no reaction at the 400 metres mark to kick on nicely in straight. 10 year old Bulsara run an honourable race, Night In Seattle unfortunately dropped the bit and Bold Inspiration was lame once again.
