With a very selective initial pace imposed by Reim and Nordic Warrior (both coming from a 1000 m race), Charles Lytton showed his worth on the Mauritian turf and finally delivered the goods given that his stable highly rated him upon purchase.

A trouble-free trip for Night In Seattle and his light weight advantage who lands his 2nd win in Mauritius. He proved his worth on the distance making him a serious contender for the upcoming Maiden Cup. Race conditions would be different with under WFA, cancelling all weight advantage (6 kg). It will depend also on how other horses will improve after that race, namely Parachute Man which changed tactics this time.
Trackmaster ran a decent race with the help of unfortunate Gharbee who over-raced throughout. Nevertheless, he proved his stamina gift breeding wise, as he is product of stallion Jet Master who natured several Group 1 winners abroad. Well done by trainer R.GUJADHUR and a perfect ride from jockey V.A Bundhoo.
Odds were largely influenced by Schachar which is still a young horse, Moi Power which had little track work and D.Mansour's choice to drop that ride. He benefitted from a decent pace and fully recovered from his last race in which he encountered an injury. Thank's for support of registered members who received by email our selections. I would like to thank the whole staff of the MTC as well as the Stewards for their hospitality on this guided tour behind the scenes during the 14th Meeting. Here are some photo souvenirs taken on the 4th & 5th race...
Another great performance by Cherish The Charm who won brillantly in the 2nd round of the 4yrs Derby. He showed great caracter at start though he got its muzzle caught in between the bars of the top gate when the latter opened. He managed to recover lost ground and controlled the race magnificently.
Race 1 : Dunraven is the logical favorite. Please to Progress & Albert's Day should do well also. H.weight can be a determining factor.
Race 2 : Roman Express & Triad Of Fortune are v.easy on track work. Navistar should repeat performance. In The Trenches has shown little since last run.. can be beaten. Race 3 : Tricky odds again. Best chances for Beacon Flare & Valerin who's knocking at the door. Hot Rocket should find an extra. Mr. Leyend's cannot be ignored though average track work. Race 4 : Battle between Streetbouncer, Zhan Hu & Papa Joe. Race 5 : Tornado Man should do well again. Halabaloo is v.competitive in that field. Obligation has worked well. Melson can be beaten. Race 6 : Battle between Night In Seatle, Cherish The Charm & M L Jet. Race 7 : Battle between Brazo & Jiggery Pokery. Race 1 : Odds on Tiger Master, Kentucky Bluegrass & Eastward Bound are justified.
Race 2 : Karraar is the one to beat. New Star will do well as usual. Trackmaster has little track work this time & can be beaten. Race 3 : Open race but best chances for Rebel's Game & Harba. Race 4 : Power Dive is back on that distance - will relish form in this field. Good chances for Yoda Man & Step to Fame also. Race 5 : Battle between King's Knight, Allenby Park & newcomer Groen Gevaarte. Race 6 : Kalingo is well prepared. Donnie Brasco & Lucky Valentine should be there also. Race 7 : Tricky odds for an open race. Shoddy Nick has shown progress. Wonderlaine, Urbi et Orbi & Put Foot Singe should perform well if in a good day. Mojo G should be there also if able to control race tempo. Race 8 : Domani seems the best option. Data Controller is expected to perform better this time if he's not hiding a problem. Constellation cannot be ignored with first draw. Newcomer Mount Fuji should be there also. Race 1 : Fidelis & Young Royal stand both a good chance. Joey's Legacy has worked well.
Race 2 : Open Race (Mount Hillaby, Papa Joe, Captain's Bounty & Act of Valor). Race 3 : Canadian Dollar remains the one to beat. Lion's Print & Hancock's Dynasty have showed good signs of progress. Race 4 : Gharbee should score another one. Silver Dice has showed progress as well as Pont D'avignon. Race 5 : Open race (Roman Manner, One Cool Dude, Azapel & Liquid Motion). Race 6 : Another open race (Nordic Warrior, Everest, Hiilbrow, Reim, Kremlin Captain). Race 7 : Blow Me Away is better than last time and should enjoy a better trip. Valerin has one more run, should be there also. Race 8 : Newcomer Lecture D seems the best option. Ocean Hunter has worked well. Right to Tango should be in the finish also. With the new handicap weight formula for some races, it will turn out to be a windfall for high rated horses. A explanation is given here.
In fact, in the latest Derby trial (4 yrs Open G.3) ran on Saturday 21st May, winner M L Jet drew a clear advantage of it. On a normal handicap basis, Night In Seatle should have a handicap of 54,5 kg but instead carried a weight of 58 kg. Though a 3,5 kg disadvantage, he managed to finish 0,45 L behind. The same for Gameloft who overcame it's 6 kg deficit by finishing 1,7 L behind the winner. For that race, compressed handicap index was (Rt 66 - 26)/ 9 kg = 4.444. So, higher is that index, higher will be the deficit for low rated horses in terms of handicap. An unsual but consistent initial part of the season for trainer R.GUJADHUR which has up to now the biggest overall percentage wins (25%) and almost half of its fleet of horses have won a race. Seven Fountains & Captain Magpie were up to expectations. M L Jet benefitted from a clever ride in front with a slow pace. Tornado Man unlucky but ran as expected.
